Position Title : Communication Assistant 
Duty Station : Algiers, Algeria 
 Classification : General Service Staff, Grade G4 
 Type of Appointment : Special Short-Term Contract, Six Months with  possibility of extension 
 Estimated Start Date : As soon as possible 
 Closing Date : May 8, 2022

Context : 
Under the overall supervision of the Head of Programme and the direct supervision of the  Head of Unit, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing effective and  efficient administrative support to will support the implementation of the EU Emergency  Trust Fund (EUTF) for Africa funded Regional Response to COVID-19 in North African  Countries related activities and services in Algeria as well as on overall communication  aspect of projects in the mission 
Core Functions / Responsibilities : 
He / She will assist to coordinate and prepare all the visibility materials related to EUTF  COVID-19 project in collaboration with the project teams, assist operational staff in  preparation of different communication tools (press release/Letters of invitations/Info  sheet/social media engagement relating to IOM Algeria projects activities including EUTF  COVID-19 project and its specific communication and visibility plan. 
In particular, the Incumbent will be responsible for the following tasks :  
1. Assist in the designing and spreading of risk communication and community  engagement (RCCE) materials as well as awareness-raising campaigns foreseen  under the project EUTF COVID-19, including outreach activities, events and social  media campaigns and posting, among others. 
2. Assist to coordinate between journalists and the Regional Coordination Team,  Project Managers and Country Project Coordinators on media coverage of events  related to EUTF COVID-19 project. 
3. Assist Operational staff in preparation of different communication tools (press  release/Letters of invitations/Info sheet/social media engagement) relating to IOM  Algeria projects activities including the EUTF COVID-19 project and its Communication and Visibility Plan. 
4. In coordination with supervisor, set up, maintain, and update the Mission’s visibility  and information materials, including through online and social media channels,  ensuring sustainable and timely dissemination of the Mission’s key messages. 
5. Assist with the gathering, preparing, and disseminating of information on IOM  activities in the country, including mission newsletter, both in writing and verbally, in  compliance with IOM and donor’s requirements. 
6. Assist to collect high quality photo and video materials on the Mission’s activities and  assist with the production of content in the form of human-interest stories from the  field, photographs, and video clips. 
7. Assist with the printing and production of communication and visibility materials as  well as related items with printing companies/service providers. 
8. Assist in the preparation of communication and visibility reports for Regional Office  and donors. 
9. Assist in the designing of IOM Algeria’s Communication Plan. 
10. Respect IOM’s Data Protection Principles assist to ensure compliance to relevant  IOM policies. 
11. Performs other duties as may be assigned. 
Required Qualifications and Experience : 
Education : 
University Degree in Communication, Social Sciences, Political Science,  International Affairs or a related field from an accredited academic institution, with 2 years of relevant professional experience; or
Completed High School degree from an accredited academic institution, with four  years of relevant professional experience.
Experience  : 
Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
Experience in communication, including digital communication and social media,  preferably in an international environment
Experience establishing and/or working with community groups desirable • Practical experience of how-to multi-task, prioritize and work independently. 
Languages : 
Fluency in English and French is required.
Working knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.

Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment  and verification of residency, visa and authorizations by the concerned Government, where  applicable.
Only candidates residing in either the country of the duty station or from a location in a  neighbouring country that is within commuting distance of the duty station will be  considered. In all cases, a prerequisite for taking up the position is legal residency in the country of the duty station, or in the neighbouring country located within commuting  distance, and work permit, as applicable.
