Our team fosters a collaborative and innovative environment, where every member contributes to both product development and strategic execution.As we continue to expand, we're committed to building and deploying next-generation solutions that redefine the HR and payroll experience.About the RoleWe are looking for an Agentic AI Engineer (LLMs & Backend Systems) to join our team and help design, build, and operate autonomous AI-driven systems. You will work at the intersection of backend engineering and generative AI, building agentic services that can reason, plan, and act across complex workflows.Your role will focus on developing reliable, controllable, and scalable AI agents that integrate deeply with backend systems, APIs, and data sources. You will collaborate closely with product, backend, and DevOps teams to deliver AI-powered features that automate workflows and enhance decision-making across the platform.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, develop, and maintain agentic AI services that orchestrate LLMs, tools, and backend systems.Implement agent reasoning, planning, and tool-use logic, ensuring predictable and safe behavior.Integrate AI agents with databases, internal services, and external APIs.Design and implement memory, state management, and context handling for long-running or multi-step agents.Ensure observability, monitoring, and debuggability of agent decisions and executions.Implement guardrails, safety mechanisms, and human-in-the-loop controls for autonomous systems.Optimize latency, cost, and scalability of agentic workloads in production.Collaborate with product, backend, and DevOps teams to deliver robust AI-powered features.Must-Have QualificationsBachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.Hands-on experience building applications using LLMs (OpenAI, Anthropic, open-source models, etc.).Proven experience designing and integrating RESTful APIs and backend services.Experience working with databases (PostgreSQL or similar) and managing application state.Practical experience with agentic patterns: tool calling, planning, multi-step reasoning, or workflow orchestration.Understanding of authentication, authorization, and secure API design.Strong grasp of software engineering best practices, including reliability, performance, and maintainability.Nice-to-Have (Bonus)Experience with agent frameworks (Agno, LangGraph, AutoGen, CrewAI, or custom implementations).Experience with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and vector databases.Experience implementing human-in-the-loop or approval-based AI systems.Exposure to LLMOps / AIOps, monitoring AI behavior in production.Experience working in SaaS or workflow-heavy domains (HR tech is a plus).Why Join Talenteo?Innovative Environment – Work with cutting-edge HR tech that’s revolutionizing HR and payroll automation.Flexible Work Culture – Enjoy a remote-first work environment with excellent work-life balance.Impactful & Collaborative Work – Contribute to solutions that drive business efficiency while working with a team that values innovation, learning, and collaboration.Competitive Compensation – Receive a competitive salary and benefits package.Ready to be part of a team that's shaping the future of HR tech in Africa?
