The Senior Exploration Geophysicist is responsible for designing, executing, and interpreting geophysical surveys to support hydrocarbon, mineral, or energy exploration activities. This role involves advanced data analysis, integration with geological and reservoir information, and providing technical leadership to optimize exploration and development strategies.Key Responsibilities1. Geophysical Data Acquisition & ProcessingPlan and design geophysical surveys (seismic, gravity, magnetic, EM, etc.)Ensure quality control of data acquisition programsOversee data processing workflows and validate outputs2. Interpretation & ModelingInterpret 2D/3D seismic data and other geophysical datasetsGenerate subsurface models, structural maps, and stratigraphic interpretationsIdentify exploration targets, leads, and prospectsQuantify uncertainties and risks in exploration prospects3. Integration & AnalysisIntegrate geophysical data with geological, petrophysical, and reservoir dataCollaborate with geologists, reservoir engineers, and drilling teamsSupport basin analysis and play fairway evaluations4. Technical LeadershipProvide mentorship and guidance to junior geophysicistsLead multidisciplinary project teamsContribute to technical standards and best practices5. Exploration Strategy & Decision SupportSupport portfolio evaluation and prospect rankingDeliver recommendations for drilling locationsParticipate in exploration strategy development and reviews6. Technology & InnovationApply advanced techniques (e.g., seismic inversion, AVO analysis, machine learning)Evaluate and implement new geophysical technologiesStay updated on industry trends and methodologies7. Reporting & CommunicationPrepare technical reports, presentations, and documentationCommunicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholdersRepresent the company in technical meetings and industry forumsRequired QualificationsEducation:Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geophysics, Geology, Earth Sciences, or related field (PhD is a plus)Experience:Typically 8–15+ years of experience in exploration geophysicsTechnical Skills:Strong expertise in seismic interpretation (2D/3D)Experience with interpretation software (e.g., Petrel, Kingdom, OpenWorks)Knowledge of geophysical processing techniquesUnderstanding of basin analysis and petroleum systems (or mineral systems)Key CompetenciesAdvanced analytical and problem-solving skillsStrong leadership and mentoring abilityExcellent communication and presentation skillsStrategic thinking and decision-makingAbility to work in multidisciplinary and multicultural teamsPreferred Skills (Optional)Experience in specific basins or regionsKnowledge of depth imaging, inversion, and reservoir characterizationProgramming skills (Python, MATLAB) for data analysisExperience in energy transition fields (CCS, geothermal, renewables)Work EnvironmentOffice-based with regular collaboration sessionsOccasional fieldwork or site visitsMay involve international travel depending on projectsTypical KPIs / Success MetricsQuality and accuracy of interpretationsSuccessful identification of viable exploration prospectsContribution to discovery success rateProject delivery within time and budgetTeam development and knowledge sharing
